Racing On AND Over Water And Beating EFI!
For the past
year PRO-SYSTEMS has been doing some pretty serious Research and development in
the Marine racing classes. These
classes really abuse powerplants and require some serious work to the
carburetion to perform. Fuel
injection for the most part in off shore boat racing is proven kind of
unreliable and a bit of a hassle so most marine race engine builders use
carburetion.
The Planetman boat owned by Tim Ciasulli of Far Hills, NJ is about
as extreme as they come in the prop driven ranks. This boat dominated the 2000 Super Boat series and racked up
the world record, resetting it to 181 mph on the water. The Planetman boat is powered by some seriously supercharged
Sterling Performance built powerplants (248-684-5040) and PRO-SYSTEMS designed
Dominator Marine carburetors, this boat not only consumed ridiculous amounts of
fuel reroute to its championship it tore up its fair share of water too (see
photo).
Jeff (Chief Dyno Operator) at Sterling Performance has always
worked with PRO-SYSTEMS on their new programs. Jeff is simple and to the point: "If Pro-Systems carburetors weren't the best, I wouldn't buy
them". Jeff also states: You guys have a couple more records and
championships with us this year too...but if I told you who they were...I'd have
to kill ya' Thanks Jeff the check
is in the mail (wink).
Patrick James, President of PRO-SYSTEMS says: We do al ot of dynoing
and build a lot of carburetor designs for Sterling Performance to test and race
on. A good working relationship
with your builder is the key to success. Jeff knows what these engines need to do on the dyno to
perform on the water. A good dyno operator or poor dyno analysis can make or
break a program. We all learned
a lot during this project and we're very proud of our accomplishments as a result
of our relationship with Sterling Performance.
Our company does alot of work in the Marine field but this class is
probably our greatest challenge. Our
R and D in NHRA Pro-Stock has bled over into these classes and the
implementation of the learned technology really paid off.
Fuel curves and atomization technology is critical in marine applications
and although NHRA Pro-Stock carbs won't work on a marine engine for even a
moment, the concepts of fuel preparation and signal modifications are key.
Thanks to everyone at Sterling for giving us a championship in our
first effort in this class.
Recently
our newest design tunnel ram Dominators on an 1100 hp Comp/Eliminator engine out
performed EFI. This test performed
at the Lukovich Racing Engine facility really proved this new learned technology
really works and can even outshine EFI. Contact John at Lukovich racing for
details about this session (Lukovichracing.com 248.280.0240)
To quote his son Jeff Lukovich (Chief dyno operator at Lukovich racing):
"The EFI guy was tearing his hair out, altering injector timing and
rail pressures etc..but everytime we would unbolt his EFI system and just bolt
the PRO-SYSTEMS carbs on the top of "HIS" EFI manifold, the engine
would out accelerate and outperform the EFI everytime".
Note to our customers: We recently moved into a new larger facility
to serve you better so change your rolodexes and speed dial settings, our new
addy is listed at the front page.
Glad you stopped in and if you have any questions feel free to e-mail or call.
